Installing a VGA monitor
Step 1: What is VGA?
Video graphics array (VGA) is a common display system for PC's that use external monitors and displays. It was first developed by IBM in 1987 and has been commonly used for PC displays ever since. All new PC's support VGA connectivity as well as, DVI and HDMI displays.Step 2: Useful Things to Know before Installation
What does the cable I need to use look like? The cable has two of the same connectors at each end and they look square in shape (usually blue in colour), with two screws on either side. The bit that goes in the port has two slanted sides and has about 15 pins inside of it. Below is a picture:
What does the port I plug the cable into look like?
The port has the same shape as the end of the VGA connector and has around 15 holes for the pins to fit into. This is where the graphical data comes out of the computer and into the display unit.
Step 3: Installing the Display Unit
This is a simple procedure if you have the knowledge beforehand of what the cable looks like and where you plug it into. What you need to do is locate where the VGA ports on both your computer and display are. Once you know where they are, then you simply plug in the cable on both ends and tighten the screws so that it is secure. You have now connected your monitor to your PC.
But that is not the only cable you need to plug in! Don't forget about your monitor's power cable or it won't work with your PC as it won't have any power!
Once you have installed the monitor correctly, you should power on the monitor and the computer. You should see the start-up screen of your computer booting up, displayed on your monitor.
Any drivers that the monitor needs (if it needs any at all) will either be automatically installed by your operating system, or be on a CD that came with the manufacturer. If it is on a CD make sure that you install the drivers before you do anything else, to ensure your display works properly.
